Bamoonzhe Day Care opened in April 2023 in Petawawa with a goal of providing high-quality childcare for the county and sharing some indigenous teachings. We are in partnership with the Bonnechere Algonquin First Nation to provide childcare and we are attached to the Herman Street Public School.
We are recruiting for a Summer Educator. This position runs June 29 to September 1, with the possibility of continuing into the fall. This role is 40 hours per week with working hours between 6:45am and 5:15pm.
The Summer Educator responsibilities include:
- Develop and implement a best practice program in line with “How Does Learning Happen” that supports and promotes the four foundations of well-being, engagement, expression, and belonging.
- Plan and implement activities that follow children’s developmental needs.
- Plan a curriculum by implementing indigenous teachings of the seven grandfathers: honesty, humility, respect, bravery, wisdom, love, and truth.
- Support children through physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development.
- Create and maintain a high-quality, safe environment that protects the health, security, and well-being of children.
- Observe and document children’s developmental milestones, interests, and needs.
- Promote open communication with staff and families regarding development and interests.
- Support children in the development of their self-help skills and independence.
- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers, management, and families.
- Attend staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
- Work in partnership to maintain the cleanliness and organization of classroom materials and the centre.
- Keep current with daily requirements, observations, ministry-regulated documents, and ELECT learning stories.
- Work in collaboratively with a large team.
- Assist the supervisor in daily operations.
