We are currently recruiting for a Social Worker-Regulated Mental Health Worker. This is a full-time, permanent position based out of Madawaska Valley District School in Barry's Bay and Opeongo High School in Douglas.

Duties of this position:

  • Support the implementation of evidence-based programs and processes for tiered support for student mental health
  • Lead violent threat risk assessment (VTRA) stage I meetings, as needed and as assigned by the district with training provided as required.
  • Support the exploration of evidence-based social work services for elementary age students
  • Provide consultation to school teams and referrals for service
  • Collaborate with school support counsellors and administrative staff about student cases and lead team meetings
  • Respond to consultation requests pertaining to students encountering challenges with mental health and/or addictions to support navigation of assessment and referrals
  • Provide direct brief therapeutic interventions to students over age 12 utilizing such programs as Brief Intervention for School Clinicians
  • Provide support to parents and caregivers to access services for students age 11 and under
  • Provide parent collaboration for students age 12 and over with consent
  • Provide consultation to administrative staff, teachers, other school staff, student and parents
  • Provide direct intervention and support for responding to the continuum of needs for suicide prevention, life promotion, suicide intervention and postvention and tragic event response
  • Case management, documentation, measurement-based care, and reporting
  • Provide individual and/or group brief interventions
  • Support the implementation of the mental health strategic plan
  • Liaise with community agencies
  • Travel throughout the board’s jurisdiction
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in social work or a related field
  • Registration in the appropriate professional college
  • Experience in providing school based social work services from an evidence informed practice perspective
  • Proven assessment and intervention skills
  • Knowledge of local and regional community resources
  • Ability to work in a team setting
  • Professionalism in dealing with confidential information
  • Good organizational, interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written)
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others
  • Training in Asist, and BMS and experience with CBT and solution focused therapy is an asset
  • A current Ontario driver’s license and access to a vehicle

Employment start date is August 25, 2026. This position works 10.5 moths per year. The work days are the 194 school days plus 5 days following the end of the school year and 5 days preceding the start of the school year. This position has vacation periods for approximately 6 weeks during the months of July and August, Christmas Break and March Break.
