Description:

Victim Services of Renfrew County is a non-profit volunteer-based organization that assists police and other emergency services in providing emotional and practical assistance to people who have experienced crime or tragic circumstances.

We are recruiting for a Summer Student who will provide administrative support with resource updating. This is a 12-week position.

This role will also assist with the collection, organization, and distribution of donations and client resources. Occasionally, the Summer Student will also be tasked with public education support. We are currently hiring one student to work from of our Renfrew office.

Additional duties may include:

  • Assist frontline staff with providing direct service support to crisis calls
  • Assist frontline staff with follow-up services and support to victims to ensure their needs have been met
  • Provide support to team members after emotionally difficult calls
  • Assist with on-scene assistance to volunteers as deemed appropriate
  • Provide general reception duties and administrative support
  • Assist with the completion of the statistical requirements as directed
  • Attend meetings
  • Contribute to productive working relationships with referring and supporting community agencies
  • Ensure the Executive Director is kept informed and updated regarding any operational issues
  • Participate in the development and implementation of evaluation processes and tools as appropriate
Qualifications
  • Enrolment in post-secondary education in a social sciences or human services discipline
  • Computer proficiency
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • An ability to work independently
  • Knowledge of the needs of the client base
  • A strong understanding of confidentiality is essential
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Must obtain and maintain a satisfactory vulnerable sector check
  • Bilingualism is an asset

Candidates must meet the eligibility of the Canada Summer Jobs program including:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • Have a valid social insurance number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
