Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation (AOPFN)is a proud and progressive Algonquin community. Pikwakanagan is situated on the shores of Golden Lake and the Bonnechere River in Renfrew County. Located off Highway 60, our community is 90 minutes west of Ottawa and 90 minutes hours east of Algonquin Park.
We are currently recruiting for a Brighter Futures Coordinator. This is a full-time, permanent position working 35 hours per week.
The Brighter Futures Coordinator is responsible for delivering programming under the Brighter Futures-Building Healthier Communities program. This role will plan, coordinate, and implement events that promote family and community well-being. The Brighter Futures Coordinator performs all administrative duties to ensure records and procedures are maintained in accordance with approved policies, guidelines, and directives.
The Brighter Futures Coordinator must be ready, willing, and able to develop and maintain a good working relationship with all government agencies, native organizations, associations, and business associates of the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation. Additional responsibilities include:
- Purchase materials and supplies according to the approved procedure.
- Promote and advertise community events and activities.
- Complete incident reports.
- Prepare a monthly update on programming, costs number of participants, etc.
- Assist with research and funding sources and preparation of funding proposals.
- Complete the evaluation process of work plans and recommend improvements.
- Ensure all programs and activities are implemented according to relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.

- Post-secondary education in a child and youth worker program, early childhood education or the completion of grade 12 with two years of experience (minimum) working with children and youth in a social setting
- Certification in First Aid and CPR (renewed annually)
- Experience in project planning and coordination
- A current acceptable vulnerable sector check

The best-qualified candidate will be defined and determined to include the following: Provided the candidate meets the basic requirements of the position and is deemed qualified following the interview process, preference will be given to:
- the qualified indigenous person who is an Algonquin; then to,
- the qualified indigenous person; then to,
- the qualified non-indigenous candidate.
Interviews
Interviews will be conducted in-person or virtually by Teams Meeting. AOPFN has the right to shortlist for interview and assessment purposes of the five most qualified persons and typically establishes an eligibility list.
