We are currently recruiting for an Early Childhood Specialist-BAS Educator. This is a temporary, full-time position of two combined roles: the Early Childhood Specialist (RECE) and the Before and After School Educator. Both require RECE qualification.

Job Summary:

Early Childhood Specialist – Reports directly to the Private Home Day Care Supervisor and is responsible to provide onsite instructional activities and quality programming that promotes positive parenting, healthy infant and child development to support family cohesion while providing the optimal development of infants and children’s activities (0-6). Direct interaction with the children in all areas of the program and its activities is required. The Early Childhood Specialist creates and leads a supportive, nurturing learning environment that encourages motivation for the children and their parents.

BAS Educator – Under the direction of the BAS Supervisor, the BAS Educator is responsible as a member of the childcare team for supporting the effective functioning of the school-age and extended day programs operation in the school setting. Duties may also include assisting with programs intended for facilitating children’s development (including social, emotional, physical and intellectual). The BAS Educator must be creative, flexible, enthusiastic, and enjoy working with children. Direct interaction with the children in all areas of the program and its activities is required.

  • Early Childhood Education diploma and membership with the College of Early Childhood Educators.
  • Registered and a member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Education.
  • 3-5 years’ proven work experience working in the early childhood field and/or the social or human services field where required.
  • 2-3 years of experience in childcare programming.
  • Language requirement: English mandatory; French preferred.

  • A clear understanding of the code of ethics and standards of practice in the ECE profession.
  • Display a high level of initiative.
  • Sensitivity and tact in dealing with people.
  • Understanding of and ability to apply “How Does Learning Happen” Ontario's Pedagogy for the Early Years as a professional learning opportunity.
  • Familiarity with all legislation according to the Child Care and Early Years Act of Ontario to ensure complete compliance with respect to ministry standards.
  • Thorough understanding of Canadian Armed Forces communities, systems and policies to effectively assist families in accessing appropriate services and supports.
Additional Information

Special Requirements:

  • Adhere to all PMFRC policies and procedures including policies regarding privacy code and confidentiality.
  • Participate in and assist with all special events when required.
  • Occasional extended workday and/or occasional evening or weekend as required. Flexibility will be required to meet the needs of the families we serve.
  • Ability to provide a clear criminal record check, obtain an enhanced reliability security clearance and vulnerable sector screening (current within 6 months).
  • Valid driver’s licence with access to a reliable vehicle for work-related travel and requisite driver’s insurance. Travel within the County of Renfrew will be required.
  • Exhibit characteristics of warmth, empathy, humour, and a non-judgmental philosophy of client-centred care and strong understanding and application of ethical principles.
  • Thorough understanding of Canadian Forces communities, systems and policies to effectively assist families in accessing appropriate services and supports
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within both an inter-disciplinary team and in a self-directed environment.
  • Sensitivity and tact in dealing with people.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and navigating the internet is required.
