Job Overview

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Civil-Structural Engineer.

Reporting to the Manager Engineering, this position is responsible to provide technical support for design, assessment, evaluation, modification and construction as well as expertise in civil engineering to meet our daily business needs.

Key accountabilities:

  • Civil design and analysis (preferably in a hydroelectric, nuclear, or thermal power generating facility)
  • Perform work involving involving structural design, engineering condition assessment, inspections, investigations and evaluations of hydroelectric structures such as dams, powerhouses, and buildings
  • Preparation of drawings, technical specifications, assessment reports and scopes of work documents related to civil rehabilitation projects
  • Perform the role of OPG owner's engineer, recognize technical deficiencies, recommend remedial measures, review and approve engineering documents to OPG's best interest and compliance with applicable codes and standards
  • Perform other duties as required to support dam safety programs
  • Working with OPG's engineering change control process and providing recommendations as required
  • Supporting the aging management and periodic inspection programs for concrete and steel structures as well as liners and coatings
  • Working with the National Building Code of Canada, Ontario Building Code, CSA S16, CSA A23, etc.
  • Providing contractor design oversight; working cross-functionally with contractors, vendors, stakeholders, and other organizational units.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering
  • Minimum of three years of experience in a civil engineering role
  • Experience in civil design and civil analysis
  • Experience working with the National Building Code of Canada, Ontario Building Code, CSA S16, CSA A23, etc.
  • Experience in maintaining hydroelectric facilities would be an asset
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work within a team setting to understand and manage the interrelationships of various internal and external groups in order to facilitate objectives and ensure projects satisfy stakeholder requirements
  • Candidate must be a fully licensed engineer in the Province of Ontario, or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario
