Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation (AOPFN)is a proud and progressive Algonquin community. Pikwakanagan is situated on the shores of Golden Lake and the Bonnechere River in Renfrew County. Located off Highway 60, our community is 90 minutes west of Ottawa and 90 minutes hours east of Algonquin Park.

We are currently recruiting for a Tutor. This is a part-time, seasonal position working 25 hours per week.

The Tutor will provide tutoring services in the areas of math, English, and other subjects to achieve academic success. This role will promote positive reinforcement and encouragement as a role model to students. The Tutor will develop a schedule and workplan to assist the students.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Develop and implement a tutoring service that encompasses the curriculum and delivers a holistic approach to teaching and learning, including opportunities for land-based learning.
  • Assess individual student abilities, skills, learning styles and interests.
  • Provide a stimulating learning environment that captures the students’ attention and inspires them.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of tutoring sessions.
  • Follow up with teachers and students.
  • Foster healthy and communicative relationships with the students and families.
  • Develop and apply a range of assessments including written and oral tests.
  • Evaluate student progress and prepare reports.
  • Complete administrative tasks as and when required.
  • Participate on relevant boards and committees.
  • Communicate, and collaborate with internal and external resources.
  • Participate in staff development initiatives and training requirements.
  • Attend meetings as required and provides monthly reports.
  • Comply with the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation policies and procedures, school board policies and procedures and the Education Act.

Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education in a teaching degree, or a high school diploma with additional education certificates and demonstrated experience in tutoring
  • An acceptable vulnerable sector check
  • Current First Aid, CPR and AED certification
  • Current immunization record

Interviews will be conducted in-person or virtually by Teams Meeting. AOPFN has the right to shortlist for interview and assessment purposes of the five most qualified persons and typically establishes an eligibility list.
