Situated on the beautiful Ottawa River, Pembroke is a vibrant city of 16,200 that is renowned as “the heart of the Ottawa Valley.” Established in 1858, it was a bustling timber town during the early part of the 20th century. Today, there are still several companies connected to the forestry sector, as well as a growing number of companies associated with a knowledge-based economy and ecotourism.

We are currently recruiting for a Refrigeration Plant Operator. This is a full-time position.

The Refrigeration Plant Operator will report to the Parks and Recreation Manager and is responsible for the following:

  • Maintain ice refrigeration plant in a safe and proper manner as assigned by the supervisor (or designate) of parks and recreation
  • Operate the ammonia refrigeration systems as outlined in the TSSA regulations
  • Repair and maintain compressors, condensers and boilers.
  • Conduct facility inspections on a regular basis and provide routine maintenance support for other non-refrigerated locations within the City of Pembroke
  • Diagnose machinery and equipment to detect and investigate irregularities and malfunctions
  • Perform scheduled preventative and predictive maintenance services
  • Perform general plumbing tasks
  • Complete work and equipment reports
  • Perform any other duties as assigned

We are also looking for someone who is electrically inclined.

  • Minimum of Grade 12; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Refrigeration B Class licence or equivalent advanced refrigeration training and experience
  • Basic Refrigeration Certificate with extensive experience
  • Possess an Ontario driver's licence in good standing
  • Capable of carrying out assigned duties with a minimum of supervision and with a high sense of responsibility
  • Observe all health and safety regulations
  • Possess a good knowledge and be familiar with the maintenance and operations of the parks and recreation department
  • Capable of carrying out various maintenance duties including but not limited to plumbing and minor HVAC maintenance
  • Able to perform physical labour
Additional Information

As a condition of employment, candidates must submit a current successful police clearance certificate and a complete physical medical examination.

Hours of work: 2080 hours per year (8 hours per day) Monday to Friday with seasonal shift work and occasional overtime.
