Situated on the beautiful Ottawa River, Pembroke is a vibrant city of 16,200 that is renowned as “the heart of the Ottawa Valley.” Established in 1858, it was a bustling timber town during the early part of the 20th century. Today, there are still several companies connected to the forestry sector, as well as a growing number of companies associated with a knowledge-based economy and ecotourism.

We are currently recruiting for a General Maintenance Class 1 Operator for the roads and fleet division. This is a permanent, full-time position with the operations department.

Under the supervision of the Supervisor of Roads & Fleet, the GM Class 1 Operator has the following responsibilities:

  • To operate one-ton trucks, pickup trucks, dump trucks, sidewalk tractors with various attachments, front end loaders, chainsaws, vibrating packers and other tools and small equipment;
  • Perform manual labour;
  • Properly maintain and operate efficiently all equipment relating to the roads section; and
  • Carry out other related duties as assigned.
  • Possess a minimum of Grade 12 education (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered)
  • Possess mechanical ability or potential
  • At least six months experience in the operation of trucks, including dump trucks
  • At least six months of experience in the field of general maintenance
  • Possess and maintain a DZ Ontario driver’s licence
  • Observe all health and safety regulations
  • Practice good public relations at all times
  • Be physically fit, alert and capable of following instructions with supervision
  • Have good communication skills
  • Be capable of carrying out assigned duties with a minimum of supervision and with a high sense of responsibility
  • Experience or trainability in mechanics
  • Able to maintain harmonious relationships
Additional Information

This position is 40 hours per week and includes weekend and holidays with occasional overtime and standby.
