Valley Manor Inc. is a progressive 90-bed long term care home in Barry's Bay. We opened in 1978 with the primary purpose to provide comfortable and congenial care in a Christian environment. We are accepting resumes for the position of Maintenance Worker. This is a temporary, full-time position.

Under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance worker will perform and upkeep tasks such as repairs and preventative maintenance. They will be responsible for applying basic fixes to equipment and building systems and ensure that facilities and equipment are safe and functional for residents, families and staff.

Being reliable and flexible with a keen eye for detail is required. The ideal candidate will have experience and solid technical knowledge. You must also possess manual dexterity and physical stamina which includes the ability to lift heavy objects.


  • Perform minor fixes on all equipment
  • Knowledge and practice of the OH&S Act
  • Check control panels and electrical wiring to identify issues
  • Install appliances and equipment
  • Maintain gardens and yards by mowing lawn, watering gardens, snow shoveling, collecting trash etc.
  • Conduct maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs, cleaning wheelchairs and lifts
  • Inspect and troubleshoot all equipment and systems (e.g. ventilation, call bell systems)
  • Check functionality of safety systems (e.g. fire alarm)
  • Collaborate with workers and other professionals
  • Ability to operate computerized maintenance programs
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Proven experience in a maintenance or handyman type of role
  • Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems
  • Experience using hand and electrical tools
  • Ability to read technical manuals, drawings and schematics
  • Very good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Physical stamina and dexterity
  • Knowledge of the safe operation of motorized equipment
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Successful completion of an apprenticeship is preferred
  • Comfortable working with computers
  • Empathetic towards long term care and the vulnerable population that we serve
