The Renfrew County Catholic District School Board (RCCDSB) operates two administration buildings, 18 elementary schools and two secondary schools in 13 communities covering more than 7,800 square kilometers. We are an inclusive Catholic learning community.

We are recruiting for a Permanent Caretaker at St. Joseph’s High School in Arnprior. This permanent, full-time position is available immediately.

The Permanent Caretaker is responsible for cleaning the school and ensuring a thorough inspection that standards of cleanliness are maintained. Additional duties include:

• Carry out effective cleaning procedures of all interior and exterior parts of the building structure,
• Perform duties that include, but are not limited to, scrubbing, washing, polishing, mopping wet and dry, floor waxing and stripping, spray buffing, lifting, climbing, vacuuming, removing recycling, responding to pages throughout the day, sanding, salting shoveling, removing garbage and moving furniture.
• Perform duties related to each record
• Prepare and maintain accurate records (i.e. fire system checks, emergency lighting checks, fire extinguisher checks, sand and salt records, water flushing records, eye wash system checks, sprinkler checks, work order requests, and all other records.)
• Maintain and upkeep all custodial equipment.
• Monitor heating, cooling, and lighting to achieve comfort for building users and conserve energy.
• Ensure compliance with WHMIS regulations and that chemicals are used, labeled and stored safely.
• Attend the school for fire, security or other after hour events.
• Assist external groups using the school facilities.
• Assist in carrying out fire drills or lockdown drills if requested.
• Check classrooms daily.
• Communicate effectively as needed relating to staffing, equipment, supply issues and any other necessary items.
• Orientate new caretakers.
• Maintain inventory of materials related to cleaning.
• Perform reporting requirements.
• Perform other duties as required.

• Successful completion of an Ontario Secondary School Diploma
• A minimum of one year of job experience in commercial or institutional janitorial work
• Ability to perform required physical tasks
• Have a reliable mode of transportation
• Basic knowledge of building code (if necessary), fire code and OHSA regulations, practices and procedures
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to function effectively with supervisors, plant staff, teachers, students, contractors and colleagues
• Proven ability to communicate in writing
• Ability to read and understand manufacturers' literature, WHMIS information, safety data sheets, and safety training course material
• Basic working knowledge of a computerized environment
• Basic knowledge of HVAC systems, electricity, plumbing, yard maintenance, cleaning procedures and techniques, fire extinguishers, and security systems
• Ability to work independently and within a team atmosphere.
