Join our dynamic and dedicated team as we continue to develop capacity within the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation and the greater unceded Algonquin territory. With our child well-being law, Nigig Nibi Ki-win, now fully in force, the community embraces a step in reconciliation by reclaiming jurisdiction over the safety and well-being of our children, youth and families.
We are recruiting for a Family Wellness & Respite Worker. This is a full-time position.
The Family Wellness Worker is responsible for assisting with the delivery and ongoing development of the family wellness program. This position will provide respite services to Algonquin families. The focus is on each family to address specific emotional, social and/or behavioural, physical, and spiritual needs. This position includes flexible shift work with evening and weekend hours.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides intake through self or professional referral
- Provides brief intervention, crisis intervention, other supports and referrals to supportive services
- Participates in training to learn facilitation skills, healing and helping to assist the community
- Assists with planning sessions, clinics, presentations, workshops and a variety of activities that support family well-being
- Assesses family needs, develops and monitors care plans
- Provide supports including homemaking, in-home support, housing, transportation, daycare, childcare, education, medical and therapeutic support
- Check-ins with clients and developing a trusting relationship.
- Seek and facilitate opportunities within the community to help build and nurture relationships with family.
- Complete a daily log of interactions with client(s) by recording and providing notes that are relevant to other service or care providers that would contribute to client and family success.
- Tracking and monitoring activities, documenting outcomes of activities and relevant programs.
- Participates in monthly staff meetings.

- Post-secondary education related to social services, child and youth worker, community service worker, personal support worker, early childhood educator or another human services field or equivalent is preferred
- A minimum of two years of experience working with families, children and youth
- Experience working with First Nation people and groups is an asset
- A minimum of a valid class “G” driver’s license and access to a dependable vehicle
- Experience with computer operations and software programs.
- Experience working with the public
- Experience with a holistic approach in the delivery of overall family wellness
- Able to deal with a varied clientele
- Clear vulnerable sector check
- CPR and Standard First Aid certification
