Columbus House Pembroke is a non-profit organization.  We offer a residential program for youth with a focus on education and teaching independent living skills.  All residents are also involved in our Teen Compass (unplugged) Outdoor Leadership Program.  This program provides our youth experiences in an outdoor setting (ie Algonquin Park) while being unplugged for the daily use of technology.

We are looking for a creative and passionate person to join our team as a Front Line Youth Care Worker.  This is a part-time position which includes day, evening and overnight (sleeping) shifts primarily on weekends. Our front line staff act in a parental role for the youth in our care.            


  • Working with the youth in the residence in the role of assisting their needs
  • Informal counselling and making referrals
  • Being part of a client-centred program offering individualized support
  • Facilitating in the acquisition of life skills including healthy lifestyle, appointment management, cooking, budgeting and accessing educational and employment resources
  • Assisting in the development of a healthy social network of family and interpersonal relationships
  • Assisting with the planning and attending of residential trips in the outdoor program
  • Assisting residents with setting individual goals and celebrating their accomplishments
  • SSW, CYW or a diploma or degree in a related field; students in their last year of study are welcome to apply as well
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to work independently and be effective in crisis situations
  • Must have and maintain a valid Ontario driver's licence
  • Experience working with youth or "at-risk" populations is an asset
  • Bilingualism is considered an asset
