Sanitation Assistant

The Township of Bonnechere Valley encompasses the villages of Eganville, Grattan, Sebastopol and South Algona. The main village of Eganville is located at the junction of Highways 41 and 60, a major transportation route in Renfrew County. The municipality is known for its lakes and rivers, especially the Bonnechere River which flows directly through the village.

The Township of Bonnechere Valley is recruiting for a Sanitation Assistant. This is a part-time position working Tuesdays and Thursdays, approximately 10 to 12 hours per week.

The Sanitation Assistant is responsible for collecting either garbage and/or recycling materials bi-weekly from the residents located in the Village of Eganville.  This includes the transporting and disposing of garbage in a safe, effective and environmentally friendly manner as well as ensuring recyclables such as glass, paper and plastic are correctly separated. This role also tags containers and bags to inform residents of non-compliance of waste management bylaw.

• Able to follow verbal instruction in performing a variety of tasks such as emptying recycling containers and collecting waste
• Demonstrate skills in team building and decision making
• Effective verbal and listening skills
• Demonstrate client service and public interaction, dealing with a public in a positive, courteous and respectful manner
• Conduct oneself during the workday to ensure good quality service and value to the ratepayers
• Excellent hand-eye coordination
• Sufficient physical strength and ability to independently and repeatedly, lift, move, pull, push, and carry objects weighing up to 23 kg (50 lbs).
• Able to work outdoors through weather conditions and elements including heat, cold, rain, snow, wind and dust
• Able to endure long periods of standing and comfortable bending, reaching, gripping, stepping, walking, twisting, climbing and squatting
• Knowledge of the provincial requirements for waste and recycling disposal

This position is included in the CUPE collective agreement at the rate of $23.01 per hour (2026 rates).
