Join our dynamic and dedicated team as we continue to develop capacity within the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation and the greater unceded Algonquin territory. With our child well-being law, Nigig Nibi Ki-win, now fully in force, the community embraces a step in reconciliation by reclaiming jurisdiction over the safety and well-being of our children, youth and families.
We are recruiting for a Post Majority Support Services (PMSS) Worker. This is a full-time position.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Provides direct support for youth and young adults who are aging out or have aged out of care up to the age of 26.
- Assist in supporting the safety and well-being of AoPFN youth and young adults in an approach that is culturally appropriate.
- Conducts initial assessments.
- Support Indigenous youth with self-identified goals, and by providing timely and ongoing services to support their mental health, well-being, and any addictions.
- Ensure youth and young adults have access to financial support, learning, educational, and professional development opportunities, safe, stable and comfortable housing,; physical, mental and social well-being, connect with land, culture, language, and community.
- Assist in the coordination of wrap-around support that meets indigenous youths’ distinct needs.
- Provide supports to family and extended family, and nurture positive relationships when the youth in care reaches the age of majority.
- Complete relevant administrative functions and reports.
- Ensure ongoing case management and follow-up.
- Prepare and submit monthly reports.

- A community college diploma in social services or a relevant human services field is preferred
- A minimum of one year of experience assisting with social programs and services
- Direct service experience with children
- Experience working with indigenous people, organizations, and communities is an asset
- Excellent range of clinical services and demonstrated practical work with a child and adolescent population presenting various clinically challenging issues
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Computer skills in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel and Outlook, and client management data system
- Ability to take initiative and work independently
- A combination of both related education and work experience in your community may be considered
- Able to meet deadlines and work flexible hours
- Excellent conflict resolution, mediation, and critical thinking skills
- Ability to understand and speak Algonquin is an asset
- Provide an acceptable vulnerable sector check
- CPR and First Aid certification
- A minimum of a class G driver’s license and a driver’s abstract
