Join our dynamic and dedicated team as we continue to develop capacity within the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation and the greater unceded Algonquin territory. With our child well-being law, Nigig Nibi Ki-win, now fully in force, the community embraces a step in reconciliation by reclaiming jurisdiction over the safety and well-being of our children, youth and families.
We are recruiting for a Services Navigator. This is a permanent, full-time position.
The Services Navigator will provide screening and brief assessment for children, youth, and families involved with Nigig Nibi-Ki-win Gamik Society, and make referrals to the appropriate service.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Works with clients and their families, creating a strategy for service for the best quality of support.
- Maintains collaborative relationships with community partners and culturally-relevant services.
- Engages with healing lodges, treatment centres, group homes, and wellness programs to learn about their service offerings, cultural practices, and approaches to care.
- Monitor the progress of the plan of care ensuring each plan remains current, responsive, and outcome-focused.
- Ensures client information is stored with respect and integrity and client stories are honoured through their time with the organization.
- Participates in case management meetings with service managers.
- Serves as an advocate for clients (re: access to services, enhancing cultural sensitivity and respect).
- Develops and maintains a living resource list.
- Completes all administrative reporting requirements.
- Participates in the development and updating of policies and procedures.
- Engages in ongoing reflection, learning, and supervision to strengthen risk awareness, reduce potential harm, and support culturally safe service delivery.

- Bachelor of social work, or a relevant combination of post-secondary education in social, human and/or health services-related fields, with 2-5 years of work experience
- Experience working directly with First Nation communities, and Algonquins of Pikwakanagan specifically, is an asset
- Understanding of the services offered by Nigig Gamik and other local service providers
- Understanding of the importance of holistic, family-led plans of care
- Knowledge of applicable local resources related to this area of work
- A minimum of two years of administrative experience using various case management systems
- Knowledge of child welfare case management,
- Knowledge of child welfare legislation such as the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, 2017, Bill C-92, Jordan’s Principle, Customary Care etc.
- Proficiency in the use of computers and various software programs, including data management.
- Able to travel and work flexible hours
- A clear criminal reference check with vulnerable sector screening.
- CPR and First Aid certification or willing to obtain
- A class G driver's license, clear driver's abstract and access to a dependable vehicle
