Description:

The mission of Bernadette McCann House (BMH) is to work for change that will end abuse, by providing safety, support, and education to all those who experience abuse. Our services include an emergency residential program for women and children, community outreach, court support, services for children and youth, groups, and workshops.

We are currently recruiting a Public Education Coordinator. This is a permanent, part-time position working 20 hours per week.

Reporting to the Outreach Supervisor, the Transitional Support Caseworker provides direct service to women who have experienced abuse.

The Public Education Coordinator develops and provides public education resources in conjunction with agency staff for the community and other organizations. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Ensures the coordination of public education events
  • Develops PowerPoints
  • Writes articles
  • Oversees the website and social media accounts
  • Assists with the strategic planning process
  • Identifies public education needs
  • Provides support and assistance to management team members
  • Makes recommendations regarding the positive promotion of the agency
Qualifications

We are looking for an individual with:

  • A minimum of a two-year community college diploma in communications or a related field (e.g., marketing, journalism)
  • A minimum of one year of experience in public education or communications; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • The ability to work independently and self-prioritize to meet deadlines
  • Project management experience and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office software and working knowledge of websites, social media management, online and print advertising
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of community organizations and strong networking skills
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Knowledge and understanding of the issues of abuse (preferred)
  • Bilingualism (preferred)
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccinations
