We are currently recruiting for a Child and Family Protection Worker (Bilingual). This is a permanent, full-time position.

Position Summary:

The Child and Family Protection Worker (CFPW) will complete the investigation and assessment of child protection concerns and will make decisions concerning appropriate service response. They provide short-term clinical services for up to 60 days following the original intake screen and assignment to them as a protection investigation. The basic objective is to ensure an immediate agency response to reports that suggest that a child is at risk of harm in his/her current environment.

After the investigation and assessment, the CFPW, in conjunction with a qualified supervisor, will make a clinical decision to either close services with a family or transfer for continued services at the ongoing level. If the CFPW remains involved, they will provide child protection and prevention services as required by the Child and Youth Family Services Act and enhance children's services development in the community. A signs of safety model will be used by the CFPW from the investigation through to ongoing services.

General Responsibilities:

The CFPW position receives new and reopened referrals that meet the eligibility spectrum criteria. Completion of child safety assessments, assessing strengths and needs in the context of child development and family functioning, and completing risk assessments are key responsibilities. The position determines the need for protection and develops an appropriate case management plan after considering child vulnerability, parental capacity, and the likelihood of future child health and development.

Additional Dutiies:

  • Intervenes actively with clients, and their networks, including informal and formal supports
  • Facilitates and supports clients in accessing appropriate collateral services
  • Demonstrates timely and planned case management
  • Coordinates the delivery of collateral services
  • Participates and provides feedback in the context of permanency planning conferences
  • Provides night duty (emergency) services as scheduled
  • Meets with a supervisor on a regularly, scheduled basis
  • Participates in team-related initiatives and activities
  • Assumes other related duties that may be directed by supervisory staff
Qualifications
  • A BSW or MSW is required
  • Individual counselling and group facilitation skills
  • Knowledgeable about computer-based technologies relevant to report writing, the collection and maintenance of client information, data, and other common office tasks
  • Bilingualism is required
  • Able to work flexible hours
  • Ability to collaborate as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Knowledge, experience, and understanding of the culture, history, and current oppressions experienced by marginalized groups
  • Ability to understand and apply anti-colonial, anti-racist, anti-ableist, anti-cisgenderist, anti-ageist, anti-classist, anti-heterosexist lenses to social problems
  • Understanding of the CYFSA, signs of safety, anti-oppressive practice, and strength-based approach
