Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation (AoPFN)is a proud and progressive Algonquin community. Pikwakanagan is situated on the shores of Golden Lake and the Bonnechere River in Renfrew County. Located off of Highway 60, our community is 90 minutes west of Ottawa and 90 minutes hours east of Algonquin Park.

We are currently recruiting for a Family & Child Therapist. This is a 15-month term position working 35 hours per week.

The Family and Child Therapist is responsible for providing specialized clinical and therapeutic mental health services to children, youth and families. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Provides intake through self and/or professional referral.
  • Conducts child and youth assessments and family assessments when applicable.
  • Develops client care plans that are culturally sensitive, client-focused and support family unity and participation. Provide counseling. therapy, brief intervention, crisis intervention and group therapy and other support.
  • Monitors and evaluates client care plans.
  • Provides referrals to specialist services to supplement treatment and counseling.
  • Advocates for additional client services.
  • Provide follow-up and aftercare.
  • Participates in clinical case management with the mental health and addictions team.
  • Consults with specialized services for care management as required and when directed.
  • Identifies and prioritizes mental health care and addiction needs, specific to children, youth and families.
  • Develops strategic plans and annualized work plans.
  • Liaises and networks with community and other mental health services for the integration of new and existing services.
  • Completes all administrative reporting requirements according to policy and the funding agent’s mandate.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of social work with a minimum of 2 years of experience working with children, youth and families in the mental health field.
  • Registered and in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Services Workers.
  • Professional liability insurance (i.e. Canadian Association of Social Workers)

Conditions of Employment:

  • Proof of registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Worker and annual compliance with the quality assurance continuing competence program to maintain membership.
  • Proof of professional liability insurance (Canadian Mental Health Association).
  • Provide an acceptable criminal records check and vulnerable sector check.
  • CPR and First Aid certificates.
  • Proof of a minimum of a class G driver’s license and a driver’s abstract.
