Our growing Pembroke office currently requires a qualified Junior Civil Technician or Technologist. This is a permanent, full-time position.

As a member of our team, you will work on a variety of assignments for the civil engineering department. The focus of civil work includes design reports, parking lot layout and design, sanitary and storm sewer design, site grading and drainage, subdivision and site servicing, and stormwater management. You will work under the direct supervision of a project manager or civil engineer.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Complete tasks assigned by the department manager as required to assist in the completion of projects
  • Complete topographic surveys
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering studies, stormwater management reports, and conceptual designs
  • Assist in the design of underground services (storm and sanitary sewers, watermains, and culverts) including calculations
  • Assist in the design of lot grading, parking lot, road reconstruction and rehabilitation projects
  • Prepare CAD drawings and verify calculations against sketches to ensure the accuracy of the work
  • Support the engineer during design and coordinate with other disciplines
  • Assist in the preparation of technical specifications, contract documents, and cost estimates
  • Undertake the site review of civil construction projects
  • Observe and review a contractor’s work for general conformity to contract documents, specifications, and generally accepted construction practices
  • Complete quantity measurements for preparation of payment certifications
  • Maintain red-line construction as-builts in hardcopy
  • Assist in researching new systems, resources, and working practices to increase efficiency, productivity, and overall profitability
  • Maintain familiarity with current techniques, codes, and standards
  • Sustain and improve technical skills
  • Follow safety standards and guidelines
  • Attend coordination meetings, build and maintain positive relationships and share expertise with colleagues
  • Workload management
Qualifications
  • 1-3 years of professional experience
  • Diploma from the civil technician or technology program
  • Eligible for certification with OACETT
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain Level II secret clearance with Public Services and Procurement Canada
  • ISO 9001:2015 fundamental training (provided by Jp2g)
  • Ability to work independently and in a complex environment, dealing with multiple projects
  • Sound communication skills (oral and written)
  • Strong sense of initiative and ability to prioritize tasks
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil3D
  • Working knowledge of Office 365
  • Reliable vehicle access
